Show Big Appropriation For West Highway The Gunnison - Levan highway, leading from this city to the Juab county line, will undergo further im-j im-j provement and according to plans mapped out the road will be put in first-class condition by grading and gravelling during the coming spring and summer. Some $8,000 has been j made available for carrying out the program and it is expected the work ' will start soon. This decision was reached Tuesday when County Com-I Com-I missioners Metcalf, Cook and Gun- derson met with J. E. Garn, district engineer for the state road commission, commis-sion, at Manti. Sanpete county will get $6,000 during dur-ing 1927 from the state as its portion por-tion from the gas taxx fund. One-half One-half of this amount, $3,000, will be applied to the Gunnison-Levan work. To this fund the state road commission commis-sion will appropriate $5,000, and with the $8,000 a splendid highway can be constructed. Junius Metcalf, commissioner from South Sanpete, was active in mapping out the program pro-gram and in getting the big fund for the road work. Not only will the west highway be put in first-class shape, but an appropriation ap-propriation of $1,000 was made by the commissioners for the improvement improve-ment of the Westview-Clarion road and the road leading west from daj-ette, daj-ette, according to Mr. Metcalf. Both of the latter roads are badly in need of repairs. . Mr. Metcalf, in company with Chairman Cook and Commissioner Gunderson, went to Salt Lake today and before returning will confer with members of the state, road commission commis-sion and the chief forest officers for an appropriation for building and repairing re-pairing the Cottonwood road leading tto Emery. |
