Show Crystal Salt Co. Plant Wiped Out Salt Lake'- Fire, said to have started when a transformer blew out in the south end of the structure, completely wiped out the three-story plant of the Inland Crystal Salt company near Saltair at 7 o'clock Friday morning. Damage to the plant and the equipment was estimated es-timated at $500,000 by I. A. Clayton, Jr., general manager of the company. G. M. Stratton, manager of the plant, first discovered the flames shooting from the south end of the giant structure struc-ture and immediately phoned the alarm to headquarters at Salt Lake. Recruiting help from families that live contiguous to the plant, men, women wo-men and children formed a bucket squad and attempted to halt the blaze. Their efforts proved futile and before the city equipment arrived the entire frame structure was ablaze. The county fire department, which had just completed placing the fire at Bingham under control, was called to the scene, and both departments played play-ed water on the blazing structure, but it had gained, too much headway to be quenched. Three homes south of the plant were damaged to the extent of $500 by the intense heat. Mr. Clayton said that fifty men are employed at the plant and they will be put to work rebuilding the plant. The outlay was completely covered by insurance, in-surance, lie slat-ed. |
