Show Early Pioneer Is . Called to Reward. Lavina Travis Tollestrup, 80 years ' of age and who crossed the plains in the ox-teams with the early emi-giants emi-giants to Utah, died at her home in this city last Sunday. Two weeks before her death Mrs. Tollestrup suffered suf-fered a stroke of apoplexy and she gradually sank, answering her final call while in an unconscious state, j Mrs. Tollestrup was born in Sheffield, Shef-field, England, July 2. 1847. Her parents joined the Mormon church in England, and in 1849 they came to America, while the daughter. Lavina. was but two years of age. The family fam-ily crossed the plains, suffering the hardships, and landed in Salt Lake, J where they resided for a number of years. When Mrs. Tollestrup grew j to girlhood she came to Gunnison - .. valley and was one of the first settlers set-tlers in Gunnison. She endured the hardships of the early pioneer life, as well as the grief and fright attendant at-tendant to the early Indian wars, j She was faithful in her belief in her religion and, in younger days, she j ' was an active church worked. In 1869 she was married to N. C. j Tollestrup, and is survived by the j following children: W. E. Tollestrup, Manteca. Calif.; Mrs. Mamie Lunde-! berg and Mrs. Chas. Nielson, of Gun- j nison, and Mrs. O. P. Stewart of , Provo. Twenty-five grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandcfiil-dren are also survivors. Impressive funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock ! . at the Relief society hall for Mrs. I Tollestrup. Services were conducted ; by ' Bishop Leslie Kidman, and the speakers were Hans C. Jensen, A. E. . ,, , , Park and Brigham Jensen. An appropriate ap-propriate musical program was giv.-en giv.-en and the large crowd in attendance was -deeply impressed.
