VETERANS GRANTED PENSIONS Two more veterans of the Blacl Hawk war, or rather one veteran am one of the widows, have been made happy during the past several week; by receiving pensions from the Na tional government. James C. Mel lor, of Fayette, who was active in th; defense of the early settlers agains: the onslaughts of the Indians L 1865, 1866 'and 1S67, last month re ceived his pension with back pa' amounting to $60 0. Mrs. Ellen W Christensen, widow of Theodore Christensen, last week received hei first voucher, which included $30 1 back pay.
