Show DANCING ART TO BE LIFTFD That a movement is on foot, and will be carried out throughout the state to bring dancing, the great pastime, pas-time, to a higher plane, was brought out clearly at a session of the dancing danc-ing convention of the L. D. S. church held in Salt Lake last week. Apostle David O. McKay, in an address to the meeting, pointed out the essoin tial ways in which dancing and social so-cial conditions could be improved. He said that though dancing instructors in-structors held the authority to superintend sup-erintend dances, that by cooperating with the public sentiment social dancing could be bettered. At present owners and proprietors of dance halls hold free reins without with-out any pressure from the community commun-ity as to how dances should be conducted, con-ducted, declared Mr. McKay in his address before the convention. Hs advised that the public should be awakened to the sense of individual responsibility as In no form of recreation recre-ation did adults give so little attention atten-tion as to that of dancing, and that of all forms of amusement, this particular par-ticular "mode of amusement, needed their supervision and guidance. Apostle McKay urfeed that the rough element and extremes in dancing danc-ing be eradicated, especially in the L. D. S. dances, and that the system of invitations be used or having some responsible person vouch for strangers. strang-ers. The stake workers, after mastering master-ing the standardized methods of dancing as taught by Katherine Gab-bott Gab-bott at the Deseret gymnasium, will now take back the instructions to the ward workers. The general social advisory committee com-mittee will formulate a definite, suggestive sug-gestive program from the idea.-; brought forth at the convention and will present the outlined plan in written form to all the social and stake officers. |
