Show Panguitch Bobcats Tip Rich Rebels 55-50 In a battle of top-ranked teams, Panguitch held off Rich in a tight game, 55-50, last weekend in Panguitch. The Bobcats led by as many as 12 points early in the game, but the Rich Rebels, who defeated defeat-ed Waterford earlier in the month, came back to take the lead by one inside the last minute. Acey Burningham came up with a tough shot in traffic to give Panguitch High School the lead 51-50. Rich missed a shot and knocked the rebound out of bounds. In disgust, one of the Rich players slapped the ball back to the referee and was called with a technical. Adam Howard, who finished with 20 points, hit the free throws to seal the win. Burningham finished it off with a couple of free throws before the final buzzer. He added 15 for the Bobcats in a clutch win. Escalante lost to the same Rich team the next night 82-69. The Moquis got down early and just could not get back, despite a magical night by Nathan Lyman, who went off for 33 points. Lucas Schulkoski was -not too bad, either, as he gunned -; for 18. Devin Shakespear hit for 9. Bryce Valley played well in the Cowboy Classic in Kanab, despite losing 55-47 to Kanab and 72-63 to South Sevier. The Mustangs were tied with the Cowboys 38-38 after three, but Kanab outscored BV 17-9 to win in the final period. Against South Sevier, David Mathews scored 23, Kytlin Chynoweth, 15 and Levi LeFevre, 18 in a fine offensive show for the Mustangs. Bryce Valley's girls team too the difficult road trip to Tabiona and Altamont. The girls lost to Altamont 42-32, as Bethany Comp and Janette Avila led the scoring with 15 and 8 points, respectively. The Mustangs were barely . edged 40-37 at Tabiona in a very fine showing. The scoring was balanced among the girls. A big in-country rivalry will be played this week as Panguitch travels to Bryce Valley in a game to be heard on KMXU radio Friday night. |
