Tracy Johnson Honored By ChildFamily Services TROPIC Each year the Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) holds a conference confer-ence to offer training to professionals profes-sionals involved with providing services to families. In conjunction conjunc-tion with this annual meeting, is an awards ceremony honoring outstanding contributions made in the field of child welfare. The league held its annual meeting in Provo in October and recognized the work of several local professionals who have advanced the cause of helping children and families. Tropic resident Tracy Johnson John-son and Glendale resident Randy Soderquist were presented present-ed the Marty Palmer Award for their efforts toward developing a more sophisticated family-friendly family-friendly process through the Utah Frontier Project. The family-friendly process allows families receiving services servic-es from both DCFS and Mental Health agencies to receive them in less disjointed manner and provides for both greater family participation and input. The Marty Palmer Award is named in honor of a renowned Utah pediatrician who spent much of his career training other physicians how to perform examinations in cases where child abuse is alleged. He is known for his compassion and sensitivity in helping families with needs. The award traditionally hon- ors individuals that have made significant contributions to Utah child welfare. This year, instead of recognizing an individual, a collaborative effort in program development was honored. The Utah Frontier Project is a federally funded research project proj-ect that is directed through the Division of Mental Health. The aim of the project is to advance strength-based family services that are child-friendly and family-focused. |
