The Gold rating is based on annual quality assurance scores that rate the campground according to its cleanliness, added services, improvements . and amenities. The Holland family moved to the area in 1999 from northern California and partnered with close friend John Hawkes to purchase the property and begin building their dream. John Holland was a native of Salt Lake City and happy to be returning to his Utah heritage. Their facility boasts a convenience con-venience storegift shop, information infor-mation center, outdoor pool, pavilion, showers, laundry, RV and tenting sites all fitted with cooking capabilities, Kamping Kabins and propane. Beginning in 1999, the Hollands with their two sons Nathan and Aaron and Hawkes and his fellow construction workers worked long hard days to make the KOA a reality. It was constructed on the site of an old apple orchard bordering on the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Over two dozen fruit trees were added as the project proceeded, and campsites were strategically placed and structured for case of access, outstanding view opportunity oppor-tunity and incorooratine as much natural vegetation, rock and gravel as possible. The project was masterfully designed and implemented, with excellent attention to every detail. "KOA Kampgrounds are known for their cleanliness and added services, but for those who go above and beyond our high standards, we reward them with a Gold rating," said Jim Rogers, KOA Inc. president and CEO as he presented the Hollands with their award. The facility opened in May of 2000 and operated its first full season in 2001. The owners have made every effort to meet the needs of their clientele by adding information racks, a variety of groceries, ice cream, newspapers,- game room, live music on busy weekends, firewood, fire-wood, cabins heated in cool months, etc. They also supply around-the-clock coverage and friendly helpful service for cus- (See KOA on page 3-A) KOA From Front Page tomers checking in and out of the facility, always keeping the grounds and facility meticulously meticulous-ly clean. Currently KOA has over 500 franchised campgrounds, and 12 company-operated properties that are open to the public. |
