Show I - ' I I ' . .-- i t ' " i ' 1 Tanielle Tebbs appeared before Panguitch City Council members informing them about Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). She won first place a recent FCCLA competition for a presentation that she created on the subject. Tebbs Continues With Fundraising Efforts For SMA Kids Of Utah PANGUITCH - Tanielle Tebbs, an eighth grader from Panguitch Middle School, competed com-peted at the Utah State FCCLA competition held Apr. 1 at the Provo Marriot. She entered in applied technology with a focus on family and consumer science and won a first- place (gold) recognition, which qualified her to compete at the National FCCLA which will be held in Chicago on July 9-16. She was judged on a 34-page portfolio and a power point presentation using a lap top computer, projector and screen. Tebbs chose as her project a subject that is very close to her heart and that of her entire family, fam-ily, Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). This disease has had a tremendous personal impact on (See PRESENTATION on pg. 7) Presentation From Front Page her family as it is the often fatal disease that her aunt and uncle in Panguitch, Jason and Jennifer Miller, have lost three babies to. SMA is the number one genetic killer of children under the age of two. By taking on this subject, Tanielle hoped to raise the level of awareness about this devastating devas-tating illness and attempt to improve her community's level of awareness through several presentations and a fundraising effort to help find a cure. In engaging this subject, Tanielle has had a number of awesome experiences for someone some-one her age. She was able to spend an afternoon with Dr. Kathryn J. Swoboda at Primary Children's Medical Center, meet with families fam-ilies personally affected by SMA and be a part of donating 15 quilts that she and several family members made to be auctioned auc-tioned off at the national SMA convention in June. Tebbs continues in her fund raising efforts for SMA Kids of Utah and would appreciate any contributions from folks interested inter-ested in assisting the cause. The funds will go directly to research here in Utah and checks may be made to SMA Kids of Utah and sent to Tanielle Tebbs, P.O. Box 201, Panguitch, Utah 84759. She is a daughter of Tim and Monica Tebbs of Panguitch and a granddaughter of Mike and Margaret Tebbs and Mel and Marlene Miller and great-granddaughter of Mary Jones and Afton and Ilene Julander, all of Panguitch. |
