J.C. and Eva Haws Haws Celebrate 80th Birthday and 60th Wedding Anniversary ESCALANTE Summer residents Dr. J.C. and Mrs. Eva Spencer Haws are celebrating their 80th birthdays and 60th wedding anniversary with their family at the Ogden LDS Temple and dinner at the Maddox Ranch House, on Saturday, May 16, 1998. The Hawses both spent their youth in Escalante where they attended the elementary and secondary sec-ondary schools and later went to the Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City, Utah. Dr. Haws went on to graduate from the Brigham Young University with his bachelor's and master's degrees, de-grees, and was awarded his doctorate doc-torate degree at the Utah State University. The Hawses were married on October 1, 1938 and moved to Cedar City, where he began his teaching. They later moved to Provo to teach and then on to Vernal, where he became a principal prin-cipal and school superintendent in the Uintah County School District. Dis-trict. In 1963, they moved with their family, to Brigham City, where he was appointed superintendent of the Box Elder County School District. He retired in 1980 after spending 40 years as a teacher and administrator in the Utah Public Schools. Both Dr. and Mrs. Haws have been active in church, civic and professional positions throughout their lives. After retirement, they served an LDS Mission in Nau-voo, Nau-voo, 111 i. and were ordinance workers in the Ogden LDS Temple Tem-ple for several years. They have one son, John (Joy), of Bear River City, Utah; three daughters, Polly Anna (Lyle) Southam, of Vernal; Uvene (Victor) Manwaring, of Pleasant View; and Ja Nell (John) Riley, of Sandy. The Hawses have 21 grandchildren grand-children and nine greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. Ten of the grandchildren grand-children are married. Their seventh sev-enth grandson is now serving a mission in Houston, Tex. The Hawses still reside in Brigham City during the winter jnonths. i |
