Show Garkane Directors Seek Help From Washington, D.C. LaDon Torgersen and Michael Blackburn, members of the Board of Directors at Garkane Power Association, met last week in Washington, D.C. with Utah's Congressional delegation to appeal ap-peal for their assistance in ensuring ensur-ing that customers of Garkane Power are not adversely affected from any efforts by the Federal Government to restructure the electric utility industry. In meetings with Utah Senators Sen-ators Orrin G. Hatch and Robert F. Bennett, Torgersen and Blackburn reminded the Senators that many questions remain to be answered before any federal law mandates electric restructuring or deregulation deregula-tion of the electric industry. "We must ensure that all customers are treated equitably and that undue burdens are not placed on residential, small business and farm users of electricity," said Torgersen. "Many parts of Garkane's service territory could be affected negatively nega-tively if the impacts on all ratepayers under a deregulated scenario are not understood. We must remember that our existing system is not broken and is providing safe and reliable electricity at a reasonable price," he added. Torgersen and Blackburn also met with Representatives Chris Cannon and Jim Hansen on the electric restructuring issue.
