Show Let's Get Serious!! Enough is enough! As a community com-munity member of Escalante, a taxpayer, a parent of three school-aged school-aged children, and a member of the "silent majority," I am sick and tired of listening to a group of zealous, over-bearing miscontents continue on as if they represent Escalante in the Judd vs. School Board situation. It is time that the rest of Garfield County recognize that this group is nothing but a kangaroo court (or committee, if you may), with a kangaroo petition (or poll, as they say), that opposes virtually every issue that comes along because be-cause they are basically "contrary" in nature. After all, is not this the same "basic" group that is now the "Independent Parly of Garfield County" since they can no longer agree in principal with either the Republicans or Democrats? This brings to surface the frag-ileness frag-ileness of a very basic right we have in the American way, the "freedom of speech." There is no question that these types of groups, whether they be environmentalists, community miscontents, social outcasts, religious fanatics, or activists ac-tivists burning the flag, all have a right to speak their piece. But the question is, how much do we, as mainstream America, allow them to feverishly "bulldoze" their beliefs be-liefs to a point where they directly affect, either politically or socially, our everyday activities and livelihoods. liveli-hoods. The silent majority is just that, too silent. The only time it really expresses itself is during elections; fair, honest, unbiased, unpressured voting for representation. And these elected officials are just that, our representatives, elected to represent our majority views. Whether it be the Republican, Democrat, or Independent Inde-pendent Party, it represents the majority. Barry Barnson is Escalante's elected school board representative. He represents the majority view, whether or not on this specific issue is-sue is not important. If this kangaroo kanga-roo committee thinks they represent repre-sent mainstream Escalante, then let one of them run against Barry in the next election. Until then, shut your traps! We've listened and endured, en-dured, but enough is enough! On the Mr. Judd situation Since the real issues behind the placement of Mr. Judd on "administrative leave" were discussed dis-cussed behind closed doors in an executive session, then I must assume as-sume that the majority vote had sufficient reason to take such action. ac-tion. Our elected representative, by purely being elected, was given the right to make such decisions. If that decision turns out to be a poor one then it will affect his chances for re-election. If it turns out to be a good one, then it will improve his re-election chances. The American way, amazing isn't it!! Dave Townsend Escalante, Utah |
