Show Farm Bureau Essay Winners Announced Results of the annual Farm Bureau Bu-reau essay contest have been announced. This year's theme for the competitive com-petitive compositions was "What the Constitution Means to Me." Winners at the local level were eligible to compete for state level awards. Taking first place in state competition was Escalante High School junior Natalie Coombs who won $75. Coombs took third place at state level as a high school freshman and second place as a sophomore. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Coombs of Boulder. Taking third place at the state competition was Kara Shakespear who won $25. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Shakespear of Tropic. Kara Shakespear placed first among elementary school contestants contes-tants for Garfield County, Justin Fischer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fischer of Panguitch, placed first in county wide middle school competition, and Natalie Coombs placed first in county high school competition. Winners at the individual schools were as follows: At Bryce Valley Elementary, Kara Shakespear was first, Michon Ott, second; and David Reed Shakespear, third. At BV Middle School, Carly Roberts was first, David J. Shakespear, second; and Kenneth G. Piatt, third. At Bryce Valley High School, Sherrie Mecham took first, Rachel Thompson, second; and Barbara Fullmer, third. At Escalante Elementary, Brenda Piquet took first, Sara Zorzakis took second, and Dawn Frank took third. At the junior high, Stephanie Simons was the first place winner; Connie Coombs, second; and Melissa Dutton, third. High school winners were Matt Taylor, first; Natalie Coombs, second; and Angelique Crigler, third. At Panguitch Elementary, first place went to Heidi Christy, second to Chad Stone, and third to Curt Crofts. At the middle school in Panguitch, Justin Fischer took first, Martin Bridges took second, and Dayna Kimball, third. There were no Panguitch High School entries. |
