Show Grant Provides Funds For Cannon ville Job Thanks to an RC&D grant from the Color Country Resource Conservation Con-servation & Development (RC&D) Council and a loan from the Division Divi-sion of Water Resources, the Can-nonville Can-nonville Irrigation Company has a new gravity pressure Irrigation System. This project included 2 1 ,000 feet of pipeline, sluice structure and regulating reservoir. The system was also designed to operate a hydro electric plant The total construction cost of the project was $267,000. Of this, $120,000 was from an RC&D grant and the rest from a loan from the Division of Water Resources. The Irrigation Company provided $60,000 in labor to install the project. pro-ject. The new system will provide irrigation ir-rigation water for 320AC (presently 155 AC). This water will be delivered deliv-ered in a pipeline under gravity pressure (no pumping required). Due to the new system, alfalfa production pro-duction is expected to increase from 3 tons to 5.5 tons per acre and grain production is expected to double on each acre. The system was also designed to handle a hydro plant to generate electricity. This will be installed at a later date. The Color Country RC&D Council is a group made up of representatives rep-resentatives of County Commissioners, Commis-sioners, Soil Conservation Districts and town mayors in Garfield, Beaver, Iron, Kane and Washington Counties. The objectives of this group is to improve the quality of life of area residents through conservation con-servation and development of this area resource. |
