Show By Jeanne Harshman 335-7348 You've heard of "Hi Ho Silver" and the Lone Ranger on his famous white horse who came to save the day. ..well, they have nothing on us. We have the Boulder Phantom. When the Phantom strikes, no one hears the mighty hoofbeats of a great white charger or sees a cloud of dust as the Phantom comes and goes. Oh, no! The Phantom strikes, unknown, quietly and mysteriously mys-teriously as an elusive wisp of smoke. Through the years, good deeds have been done. Baked goods and handmade gifts left on doorsteps, and even money left in time of need. Last year the Boulder fire chief got a beautiful handmade red crocheted coaster with a note that said, "The Boulder Phantom thinks you are 'hot stuff.'" So a sense of humor is another key to the charac ter of the elusive Phantom. This past summer a complete layette for Mike and Carrie Ryan's new baby was anonymously left on the doorstep. The Phantom? Postmaster Judy Davis reports that this past week the Phantom left Christmas decorated cans of cookies with a note to hand them out to the first people going into the post office. She reports they were left on the steps of the post office before she got there. In checking around it seems many lives have been touched by the Boulder Phantom. No one knows if the Phantom is male or female, young or old or if there is more than one. It's a mystery. Only the Phantom knows. Oh, if only Zane Grey were writing today, I'm sure he would have another story to tell and possibly the name of it would be "The Boulder Phantom Strikes Again." |
