In Thursday night's game at Panguitch High School, Valley's Tony Baird (35) tries to block Bobcat Elliott Brinkerhoff s (20) layup attempt as Brinkerhoff s teammates Kenny Tebbs (12), By John Yardley The Panguitch Bobcats and Escalante Moquis meet in a battle of the undefeateds tomorrow night in Escalante in a key Region 15 basketball game. Both teams picked up league wins last weekend with Escalante stopping Milford and Panguitch getting past the Valley Val-ley Buffaloes. The game pits the quickness and Aaron Howard (42) and Markay Englestead (24) come to his aid. Panguitch took the game 59-54, remaining unbeaten to face also-unbeaten also-unbeaten Moquis Friday night in Escalante. Unbeatens Panguitch And Escalante To Meet Friday Night In Escalante ball handling skills of the Moquis against the strength and rebounding of the Bobcats. Each team has a deadly three-point shooter Gerald Roundy of Escalante and Markay Englestead of Panguitch. This game could really be a dandy on the home court of the Moquis and though still early in the season, the winner will be 2-0 and in great shape in league standings. The PanguitchEscalante game will be heard locally on KMXU Fm. In other league games last weekend.. week-end.. .Bryce Valley lost a tough ball game at Piute 86-69. Panguitch tipped over an excellent excel-lent Valley team with balanced scoring 59-54. Markay Englestead banged in three, three-pointers on his way to 20 points and open the inside for Jeremy Hcnrie, Jimmy . Frandsen, Aaron Howard and Jeremy LeFevre, who all got into the scoring and rebounding act. Elliott El-liott Brinkerhoff and Kenny Tebbs rounded out the team effort for Pan guitch, hitting key free-throws down the stretch. Escalante welcomed back Ryan Carter in the Moqui win as Coach Jim Smith said his team played with "a limited amount of turnovers" in winning 59-44. They also had to play very good defense to hold Milford to only 44 points. Ryan Carter, Gerald Roundy and Heath Spencer were the big scorers for the Moquis, as they beat the Milford Tigers for the second time in as many weeks. A note on the J.V. game... Garrett Cottam hit two free-throws with one second showing show-ing on the clock to send the game into overtime before the Escalante J.V. defeated Milford in a real thriller. He must have ice in his veins! Bryce Valley played pretty much even with the T-Birds at Junction until the fourth quarter. Things just kind of went wrong in the final period, after the Mustangs only trailed by five 45-40 at the half. David Shakespear hit five three-pointers three-pointers as he drilled 22 points to lead the way for Bryce Valley. Chance Stewart hit seven field goals in racking up 14 points and Ben Shewman scored 11 for BV. Bryce Valley lost to a big 2A Emery team on Saturday. The Mustangs travel to Valley this weekend in another difficult road game early in the season. The Panguitch girls lost to Parowan at Parowan, but Curtis Barney's team played one of their better games of the year. Despite some of the girls being absent because be-cause of drill team, PHS fell by only six, 58-52. Patricia Howard blasted away with 25 points to lead all scorers, while Suzanne Bulkley and Amber Miller each chipped in with seven. Coach Barney felt good about his team and the effort made in this game. Thursday night, the Bobcats host Piute in a league encounter. Panguitch won their J.V. game 45-39 as Frankie Burningham scored 1 1 and Tara Excell 10 to lead the team in scoring. |
