Show 1 II I I - - - - - I M I I - By Harriet Priska 826810 February thaw! The nice series of sunny days has melted a lot of the snow around here, but most of the fields in the valley are still white and the mountain are dramatic with pink cliffs accented by their white accessories. March promises more storms, so we are enjoying the break. The LDS Relief Society couples annual Homecoming Party will be held at noon, Mar. 21 at the Escalante Stake Center. Hand work by the Relief Society will be featured fea-tured at the Art Center at the Library Li-brary for the month of March. Celeste Bernard's brother, Dan Paquette from Salt Lake City enjoyed en-joyed a week long visit here and loved walking all over town. Perhaps Per-haps a "walking tour map" should be made available to those interested inter-ested in local lore. Jackie and Larry Withers recently re-cently returned from a training seminar sem-inar in Mesquite, Nev. for Coldwell Banker. Larry will be working in Kanab two days a week with the real estate agency there and three days here in town. They will be returning re-turning to Mesquite for further training in March. Bill and Dawn Griffin took a whirlwind tour down to Yuma, Ariz, to visit Betty and Blake Schow before they returned to Salt Lake City for the summer. The Griffins then went on to Mesa, Ariz, to visit relatives before returning return-ing home later in the week. Janet and Kent Wells, Pleasant Grove and three of their seven children chil-dren were here to attend the wedding reception held for their daughter, Jennifer and new son-in-law Kerry Shurtz. Mr. Wells works for the IRS as an accountant and his wife works at the Wasatch Bank, as does the bride. Mrs. Wells celebrated her birthday while here and was serenaded sere-naded by all in attendance. Henry Alvey has been in Salt Lake City staying with family and taking tests to determine the cause of his continued illness. We hope he will soon be on the mend. Two SuperHost courses were given this past week in Escalante by Jean and Spring Seiler, Tourism Marketing Specialists, Tropic and Larry Davis, Anasazi State Park Ranger, Boulder. Approximately sixty 9-12 graders got very enthused about making western items to be sold as a high school fund raiser this summer. Twenty local services ser-vices people and merchants from Escalante and Boulder learned communication com-munication skills, how to deal with difficult customers and ways to make the area user friendly. This is an excellent course and all employers employ-ers are encouraged to attend and sponsor their employees. Participating Partici-pating businesses who have the percentage of attendance requirements require-ments met will receive certificates of participation from the Governor's office. More courses are anticipated in the Garfield County area and will be announced in the Garfield County News. |
