Show Crack Down On Laws Now! When I first read your (June 27) editorial and letters (from Trooper Craig Twitchell), I thought: how cruel! Don't you think that this underaged driver's parents are going through enough right now? Trying to deal with their loss, pain and guilt? Yes, you are right. No one can dispute that point. If this under-aged under-aged driver had not been driving, he would not have been killed. But what about the other drivers who have been killed on our highways? If they had not been driving, they would not have been killed either. And how can you put all the blame on the parents? Where was the law enforcement that was going to crack down on these unlicensed drivers? And what about the licensed li-censed drivers who drive recklessly reck-lessly and speed? and the drunk drivers? And some of the old people peo-ple who are clearly a hazard on the highway? And the drivers that don't wear their seat belts, putting their lives in danger everytime they drive on our highway? There are also laws about all of these. No, now was not the time to be cruel. Three years ago was the time to be cruel, by putting a stop to illegal il-legal driving then. Let the drivers know now that unlawful driving of any kind will not be tolerated by cracking down now. Don't wait until it's too late again. I know how much Craig Twitchell cares for people and their lives, but people are not going go-ing to change just because you ask them to, and one Highway Patrol trooper cannot do it by himself. He must have the help of the local law enforcement as well. I love these kids. I don't want to lose another one either, licensed or unlicensed. From a licensed driver and a parent who is not perfect herself. Nancy Littlefield Henrieville |
