One serving is one thick slice of bread, Vi cup rice, hot cereal, cooked pasta, a muffin, or 34 cup cold unsweetened cereal. Whole grain products are more nutritious than white enriched grains. Plenty of fluids, at least 8-10 cups a day. You may count your milk intake in your total amount of fluids. Prenatal vitamin and mineral supplements as prescribed by your health care provider. These supplements contain the extra iron and folic acid that are essential to the development of your baby. Excessive vitamin and mineral supplements are not necessary and may be harmful to you and your unborn baby. In general don't skip meals when you are pregnant. Weight gain in pregnancy is normal and should be slow and steady. Although you are not really eating for two, you need to increase your daily calorie intake in pregnancy by about 300 calories. Dieting to lose or maintain your weight should be the last thing on your mind now. |
