Show Escalante Events By Marilyn Jackson Many were getting ready for summer when the temperatures dropped, leaving ice scenes throughout the valley. Temperatures Tempera-tures plunged from 78 to 35, a 43 difference in a single day. However, the snowbirds are beginning to arrive. ar-rive. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Liston returned re-turned home. Mr. and Mrs. Claron Griffin came from Arizona to find leaking pipes and soaked carpets. They have a new great-granddaughter, Anne Spencer, born to Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Spencer of Orem. The infant in-fant is also the great-granddaughter of Lillie Spencer and great-great granddaughter of Lcnora Griffin. The Vcrgcan Porter family gathered gath-ered to hear son Clint Porter report his LDS mission in New Zealand. There were Spencer and Porter uncles, un-cles, aunts and counsins by the dozens who met afterward for a dinner din-ner at the elementary school and joined the families of Clint's brothers and sister. Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Lyman are parents of a new baby daughter. April Marie Lyman was born Thursday, April 7, weighing a blue-ribbon blue-ribbon 11 lb. 1 oz. She has three sisters and a brother at home, making mak-ing 32 grandchildren for Mr. and Mrs. Randcl Lyman. Patrice Eyre spent the week with parents Mr. and Mrs. Bill Griffin while convalescing conva-lescing from pneumonia. She was well enough, however, to return to work in Salt Lake City to help with delivering the baby of Mr. and Mrs. Dal Liston whose baby, Danielle, was born this week. Patrice is head maternity nurse at Salt Lake City hospital, where she supervises all premature childbirths. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Griffin have a new grandson born to daughter Jcanncttc Braithwaitc in Salt Lake City. The Braithwaitcs named their new addition Ryan Douglas. Daryl Griffin purchased the trailer trail-er home of the Greg Shakcspcarcs and has moved it to the Roe Barney lot. Denton Sid well acquired the Danny Pratt trailer home and placed it near the home of sister Shonna Lyman. H & S Service has been expanding. expand-ing. They arc making more room for the goodies part of their gas and goodies business. Also new arc sidewalks at the late Calvin Shurtz home and at the Rolain Trujillo beauty shop. The Kevin Moorcs returned from Emery County where they attended funeral services for his cousin who was murdered there. Blake Robinson spent the week in Phoenix. His brother and sister-in-law, the Lynn Robinsons of Junction, came to care for things here. Most of the children and grandchildren grand-children of Delia Christiansen met over the weekend to celebrate her birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Troy Lyman gave her early birthday greetings, then went to Las Vegas to commemorate com-memorate their 10th wedding anniversary. an-niversary. Mr. and Mrs. Marc McLcmore returned from St, George where he had telephone meetings. Hank Bolton was taken to Salt Lake City after complications arose following a sprinkling accident at the field. Dan Coleman also sustained sus-tained injuries while working with sprinkling lines. Virginia Dane un- 1 derwent surgery this week. Her son Lee Dane and family have been with her from Las Vegas. Rex Masters was transported to Garfield Memorial Hospital Sunday i after experiencing difficulty with his medication. Leah Griffin accompanied ac-companied his wife Ray to Panguitch Pangui-tch and relumed with the ambulance crew. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Dean Roundy and son Darrel Roundy of Monroe came to sec Hilda Roundy and relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. Kent Robinson arc ' home after sending the spring vaca- j lion in Idaho with family members. , I ; The Hal Shurtz family met at Zions Canyon for their Easter vacation. They met five of their children including the Kim Nelsons, Nel-sons, Brent Niclsons, Mike Harpers, Kenneth Shurizcs, and Stan Jacks. They returned to meet son Kaylynn Shurtz and family here. The scouts camped overnight at Devil's Rock Garden. During the night Matthew Simons, son of Mr. and Mrs. Quay Simons fell from a ledge breaking his arm. He was taken to Garfield Memorial Hospital Hospi-tal where he was stabilized, then transported to Dixie Medical Center. Cen-ter. Michelle Slratton and husband Steven came for the weekend to be with the Quay Simons family. The junior class sponsored their I i prom Saturday night. The orchestra ' j "Justice" from Cedar City played j their theme song "Nothing's Going ! to Stop Us Now." Under the direc- j lion of class advisor Jancne Alle- J man the class decorated the hall i with red, black and silver using 1 j over 2,000 balloons. Class mem- ' bcrs include Lynnctte B. Among relatives who went to jj Cedar City for the mission report of Bj Glen Woolscy were Beryl Shurtz, ' jK Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. Sharon Dale Marsh. The Mouniccr sisters, Myrna, ft Marva, Carol and Peggy, came jj from Salt Lake City to check on i their home. Eva Marie Crosby has U moved to the home formerly occu- p pied by John Krcachbaum. R Raymond Griffin came for the S weekend to visit parents Mr. and S Mrs. Vernon Griffin and help them with wiring. ! Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cottam also came to sec the Ushur Spencer family and Cottam relatives. Barbara Munson is home after ' attending her missionary reunion in Salt Lake City. Escalanic LDS ward members anxiously await the details of a division di-vision of the ward which will take i place next week, separating the ' wards at Center Street, Both the elementary and high schools held PTA conferences Friday. Fri-day. Students were entertained ' Tuesday by Ballet West. They plan , a trip to Salt Gulch to study flora and fauna on Friday. |
