Show Dixie Forest Offers Tree Permits The Powell Ranger District, Dixie National Forest, Panguitch, will have Christmas tree tags for personal use available for sale from Nov. 23 to Dec. 21. The tags may be purchased at the district office during regular office hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. In addition, the office will be open on the following Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: November 24, December 1, 8 and 15. Tags will not be available on Thanksgiving day or on Sundays. A cost of $3 per tag will be charged which permits the buyer to cut trees within authorized areas inside the Forest boundary. Tags may be purchased in person or are available by mail at the above address. Trees may be cut up to eight feet in height. Under no circumstances are taller trees to be topped. During the cutting operation, trees should be cut at less than a six-inch stump diamater. Excess limbs shall be topped and scattered (to within 2 feet of ground). Trees should not be cut within 200 feet of roads, streams, or campgrounds. Species available are white fir, subalpine fir, Douglas fir, Engelmann spruce and limber, pinyon and ponderosa pines. The following areas within the Powell Ranger District are open for cutting: Pinyon may be cut within the pinyon-juniper stands east of Panguitch, south of Circleville (and U.S. Highway 89) and west of Antimony (and the Johnson Valley Road). Fir and spruce may be cut within the Jones Corral area (except plantations) and within the Skunk and Blubber Creek drainages. A map designating these cutting areas may be obtained when a tag is purchased. Additional information may be obtained at the district office. |
