Show EMT Seminar Draws ' Garfield Volunteers ; Eleven Garfield County Emergency Medical Technicians attended the Eighth Annual Conference on Prehospital Emergency Care and Crisis Intervention. The conference held early in November was sponsored by the Utah Emergency Medical Services Associates and presented new concepts for nurses, paramedics, EMTs, emergency rescue personnel and first responders. Specific conference goals were to study and apply the latest concepts and techniques in emergency medical care and crisis intervention under the direction of experts in the field; to provide recertification and continuing education for increased professionalism; and to provide association with other members of the EMS team. They participated in a variety of special classes and were able to select from such specific training as logistical problems in rural prehospital trauma care; respiratory emergencies, swift water rescue; management of cervical spine injuries; cerebral resuscitation or saving the brain at the scene; stress in emergency personnel; communication skills in ' the field and many more. The three-day seminar provided experts from every field of medicine fH and outstanding emergency care specialists. jj Attending from Garfield County were Larry Davis and Dee Hardy, Jft Boulder; Rose Woolsey, Tracy Jfc Dallison and Boyd Woolsey,'-Escalante; Sandrea Franc isconST Bryce Valley and Christine Litt tlefield, Verna Owens, Jean Julander, Peg Bagnell and Karla iSj Sawyer, Panguitch. Sponsors providing financial v backing for local EMTs were Utah State Department of Parks and Recreation, Escalante Sawmills, Inc. and Garfield Memorial Hospital. Funds were also provided from monies earned by the Annual EMT Rodeo and by the EMTs themselves. Many dedicated EMTs left the county at 4 a.m. to reach Salt Lake City in time for early morning classes, said county EMT Operations Officer Bob McCullough. |
