Show Tropic, Contractor Reach Agreement On Street Paving Tropic town officials apparently reached an agreement with Garfield County, the contractor who did the paving and the project engineer at the regular Garfield County commission meeting held Monday, Nov. 5. Tropic had 1.1 miles of streets paved by Hurricane Sand and Gravel under a Housing and Urbans Development Community Development Block Grant in 1982 at a cost of approximately $110,000. Claiming the paving work which had been performed was substandard, Tropic officials sought redress from the company and from the contractor. After some two years of negotiation, a settlement was reached shortly before noon on Monday, Russell Limb, representing Hurricane Sand and Gravel, the paving contractor, agreed to put up $8,000 for materials for the proejct. Reed Noble and Frank Seegmiller, representing Creamer and Noble Engineers, agreed to put up $2,000 and Mayor pro-tern Ella Adair and council members IaMar Feltner and Robert Bradley, Tropic, agreed to put up $2,000 of Tropic's money to correct the problem, Garfield County committed one loader, two rollers, one chipper, one truck and three men to be taken out of Tropic's allotted regular annual cleanup time donated by the county. Limb, Noble, Seegmiller and the three Tropic officials met apart from the regular commission meeting to hammer out details of the agreement. The agreement was reached, according to Commission Chairman George Middleton, but the principals did not return to the commission chambers. Tropic council member Robert Bradley also confirmed the conclusion of an agreement and the specified terms but Mayor Pro-tem Adair stated that no agreement had been reached and no money committed by Tropic. Bradley stated the subject will be placed on the agenda for Tropic's next regular meeting. The work will not begin on the project unitl June when the weather warms. |
