Show George Proctor Gem Group Names Proctor Lapidary craftsman George Proctor was named vice president of the Color Country Gem and Mineral Society. The organization's charter member was co-chairman with Bill Niebel for last summer's successful gem and mineral show in Panguitch, the first ever in southern Utah. Proctor's wife, Tnora has encouraged him to learn lapidary skills, and, in 1980, his first year, he made over 30 pieces of jewelry as gifts for members of his family. He was recently appointed by club president Henry Bolton to be this year's show chairman. Another interesting hobby of Proctor's is prospecting and he spends time each year working his gold claims near Moab. Having lived in the county all of his life, he is familiar with its terrain and sects. He took charge of the special field trip planned for participants at the summer gem and mineral show, taking fellow rockhounds to Pass Creek, south of Panguitch, to enjoy some of the county's special mineral treats. Proctor is serving as this months program chairman for the club's monthly meeting. On March 14 at 7 p.m., the group will meet at the Panguitch City Room where new comers are always welcome to join. The Color Country Gem and Mineral Society has set May 3 to 5 for its second annual gem and mineral show in Panguitch. |
