Show Master Plan Amendments Told at Meets Public hearings on proposed amendments to the Garfield County Master Plan were held in Panguitch and Escalante. The Monday evening meeting in Panguitch and Tuesday evening meeting in Escalante generated considerable input from the public and resulted in several new suggestions being Included in the plan with the next step being a public hearing to be set by the Garfield County Commission. Vaughn McDonald, director of Natural Resources for the Five County Association of Governments in St. George, who assisted in preparation of the updated plan, said the actions being taken were part of the "dynamic process" of master plans which are meant to be refined and revised from time to time. Amendments were made earlier to the plan and the current proposed changes and additions will take advantage of new data, some of which were made available through the 1980 census, McDonald said. Conservation officer Norman McKee pointed out that the proposed plan does not include the county's position on wildlife, one of its most important assets. He said sportsmen" in the area contribute an average of $27 a day to the county's economy. The county's position on Project BOLD is included in proposed additions to preserve current important rights of way. The Boulder-Bullfrog road was included in the plan as a high-priority item as well as the Hatch Town Dam proposal. Richard Blubaugh, Moab, representing Atlas Minerals, Grand Junction, urged that the county adopt a flexible impact policy to encourage future development. The company has holdings north of Ticaboo which it hopes to develop. Other citizens present who offered significant comments were Gerald Law, Hatch councilman and Ron Greenhalgh, Garfield County Road Department. Larry Sips represented the Bureau of Land Management in Hanksville and George Peternel, Escalante BLM. The seven members of the Garfield County Planning commission are Garth Noyes, chairman; Tom McCormick, chairman pro-tem; Anita Fletcher, Cannonville; Janet LeFevre, Henrieville; Guy Thompson, voting ex-officio member; Bruce Fullmer, Panguitch; Arnold Alvey, Escalante and Leland Riggs, Hatch. Alternate is Richard Louvier, Antimony. Members of the board of adjustment are Earl Jolley, Anthony Coombs and one not yet designated. Advisors are Kent Wintch and County Attorney Patrick Nolan . |
