Show It Makes Cents BY VI JUDGE Dear VI: When my artificial flower arrangments are thoroughly dry after a dip in detergent suds, I spray them thoroughly with hair spray. This keeps them glossy and lovely and they don't need a bath as often as they used to. Also, a tarnish preventative polish applied twice a year to my silver pitcher, trays, etc., plus a weekly dusting with a soft lint-free cloth keeps them looking bright and new with almost no effort. Such a boon after all the time I used to spend polishing them. Annie M., Richfield, Utah. Dear Vi: Although we felt the need, we couldn't spare the money to install a sophisticated burglar alarm system, so I got some loud bells to attach to all the locks on our doors and windows. Since the bells are Inside. I feel sure the noise they would make .Iffijld discourage anyone from trying to' enlei1 TWyilJIIJ1.1" l 'etr tainly hope they don't get the real test, however. Dennis M., Twin Falls, Idaho Dear Vi: My wife uses my automobile cleaner on her baked-on-enamel kitchen cupboards followed by a coat of wax. She says it cleans better than any of the commercial cleaners she has tried. She's clever about ants, too. Let a trail of those pests enter the house and she quickly picks them up with masking tape. I have to laugh, but it gets rid of them in a hurry. D.M.P. Dear Vi: I didn't know what else to do with a bunch of brown latchhook-length yarn I had left from another project, so I tied them into small pom-poms to sew around the orange-rust velveteen sofa cushion I made. This added a professional look to the cushion. I was very pleased. Myrl Shultz, San Diego. Dear VI: As restaurant owners, we would like to suggest that mayonnaise should never be left unrefrigerated overnight because (according to the health inspector who comes to our place) its egg content makes it suspect for food poisoning. Ketchup, soy sauce, and prepared mustard may be left out if they will be used within a week, he told us. I'm writing this because we quite often see mayonnaise left out in homes we visit. Please don't mention our names. DandM Your warning says to me that mustard, ketchup, and other condiments should be refrigerated after every use in most homes because thev usually last longer than a week. .Dear Vi: 'TeBrPT"?!ftHj'lV', T .spray the inside of the pan with a no-stick product so that it is easily washed afterwards. Since I started wearing bifocals, I find it difficult to thread the sewing machine needle so I take it out of the machine and thread it, and put it back. This may seem like a bother but it's better than getting all frustrated because you can't see the needle eye. D. Ursenbach. Have you tried putting a white paper under the needle? This makes the needle eye show up better. Readers: This is your feature. Keep those good ideas coming. Just jot yours down and mail it to It Makes Cents, P.O.
