Show Names, Addresses To Appear on Letters to Editor There will be no more "name withheld" on letters to the editor published in the Garfield County Publisher Mark Fuellenbach said effective immediately, the names and addresses of writers must appear with letters when published. Fuellenbach said an increasing number of letters are being received with request to withhold names, and many of these letters (many not published) border on libel and defamation of character. "We have decided that if people want to speak their minds they are going to have to be willing to have their names signed to those letters," he said. In the past, the newspaper would withhold the name of the letter writer if requested, but lett3rs had to be signed to be considered for publication, "We welcome letters to the editor and want to continue to print them," Fuellenbach said. "But from now on, letters must be signed along with the address of the writer, and they will be published along with their letter," Deadline for letters to the editor is Friday at 4 p.m. |
