Panguitch Cheerleaders Win Awards During Spririt Camp season training session at Utah State University at Logan. Over 1300 students from high schools throughout the state got together for this traditional yellfest. Conducted by the United Spirit Association, instruction is provided by professional spirit advisors and coaches, high school teachers and cheerleadrs and songleaders from such schools, as UCLA, USC, Arizona State, University of Utah, Long Beach State, Oregon State and Washington State. From early morning until "lights out", the spirtleaders participated in a variety of classes and rally activities. The schedule included leadership classes, a coach's class on game rules, a rally and skit class and instruction in new routines, cheers, jumps, tumbling and partner stunts. There was even a class on how to use a microphone. Things have come along way since the old "sis, boom, bah". The Panguitch High squads were awarded three superior blue ribbons and the "spirit stick" for their enthusiasm. Girls are judged at various times throughout the week. Bobcat mascot Pam Hepworth received three excellent ribbons. The group of girls returned from their training excited and weary saying they had never had so much fun and never worked so hard. Their favorite activities were the "spirit" rally and the hoedown night with its special dinner and band. Attending spirit camp were varisty cheerleaders Beth Brinkerhoff, Lana Houston, Laralee Baldwin and Joyce Dodds; junior varisty cheerleaders Cindy Farnsworth, Cheri Nelson, Larraine Varela, and Laurie Henrie and Bobcat mascot Pam Hepworth. Traveling with the girls to Logan were advisor Gloria Houston and cheerleader mother Ann Farnsworth. |
