Show No Plans to Move Operations, Says Kaibab Manager Kaibab Industries plant manager in Panguitch, Carl Keepf, Tuedsay denied persistent rumors that the facility would close down in September and move its employees to its Fredonia plant. Keepf indicated that any such specific move would be preceded by a proper notice to employees and that no such plan is in the offing for Kaibab's personnel. Despite the troubles that have plagued the lumber industry throughout the nation because of curtailed constructon, Kaibab has managed to keep its employees in action and recent work on Boulder Mountain in the central portion of the county has kept lumber trucks running with full loads. A recent industry survey by the Western Wood Products Association showed 33,700 or 33 percent of the 102,000 sawmill employees in the western lumber industry were off the job. Of the 756 sawmills in the West, 262 were closed and the rest were operating at curtailed levels, the survey revealed. Besides poor market conditions, some western sawmills were closed due to scheduled summer vacations. |
