Show BYU Sponsoring Essay Contest on Elderly The Resource Center on Adult Development and Aging at Brigham Young University is sponsoring an essay contest on the personal influence of the elderly in the lives of members of their families and others. The contest is in honor of Dr. Russell B. Clark, a retired California physician, and awards will be financed from a fund established by Dr. Clark. The elderly are not all sitting in rocking chairs. Many of them make a significant contribution to society and enrich the lives of younger people, according to Dr. Phileon B. Robinson, Jr., director of the center. The poet Robert Browning said, "Grow 'old along with me. the best is yet to be, the last for which the first was made . . ." In the spirit of these i observations about aging, essays might consider how elderly individuals have remained productive, influential, and interested in life, Dr Robinson said. Entries for this contest should be written on the subject "How the Elderly Have Enriched My Life" or "How My Grandparents Have Enriched My Life." Essays should be approximately one hundred words In length and typed or written neatly in ink. Dr. Robinson said entries should be submitted to the Resource Center on Adult Development and Aging, 9 JSB, BYU, Provo, Utah 84602. All essays must be submitted by Jan. 1, 1982, and will become the property of the center. They will be judged by a committee of professors and others.
