Show Pollitl Finishes Course In Political Science At 'U9 TICABOO James M. Pollitt Jr., Ticaboo school teacher, and former Panguitch teacher, has successfully completed a two-week concentrated political science course at the University of Utah. Pollitt was among 30 specially selected elementary, junior high and high school social science teachers who participated in the 10th annual Robert A. Taft Institute of Government Seminar. i ne ran seminar is one of 36 held on college and university campuses in 30 states and the District of Columbia this summer. They are under the direction of the Robert A. Taft Institute of Government, New York City, which memorializes the late Ohio senator. Pollitt, who teaches grades six through 12, was given a realistic grasp of the principles of American government and the processes of the two-party political system. The Weber State jCollege graduate said although the seminar was rigorous, he got a lot out of it. "I enjoyed it. I got some new and different perspectives on politics," he said. "The hardest element of the seminar was the concentrated study. You finish nine months of school teaching not really sure you have two more weeks left for a seminar," Pollitt added. Pollitt heard from nearly 100 speakers including Utah Democratic and Republican party leaders, clergymen, women's leaders, state and local judicial officers, a Utah Supreme Court justice, a former U.S. senator and a current Utah congressman. The teachers were also required to read 10 books and complete a paper. Pollitt's wife Norma is an elementary school I principal and teacher in i Ticaboo.
