Show Escalante Man Named to Council ESCALANTE Keith Carter, Escalante rancher, was among 57 Utahns appointed to five advisory councils to the Bureau of Land Management by Secretary of the Interior, Cecil D. Andrus, according to Gary J. Wicks, BLM state director for Utah. Carter was appointed to the Cedar City District council. The appointments include 12 members of the Salt Lake district multiple use advisory council, 11 members for the Cedar City district, 11 members for the Richfield district, 12 members for the Moab district and 11 members for the Vernal district. In making the appointments, Andrus told the new council members that their primary responsiblity will be "to bring your diverse experiences and concerns to bear upon the most significant issues involved in planning and management of the BLM-administered lands in your district." The secretary called on the members to carry out their advisory responsibilities from the "highest public-interest perspective, and as a representative of that interest, rather than any narrower perspectives." He asked them to "give your district manager your best advice as he seeks to be a good steward of the land, a good neighbor and a good public servant." |
