Forty two years ago we had a big snow storm depositing three and a half feet of snow or more in Tropic . . . how well I do remember! I was a new teacher in Tropic and had been in Salt Lake City for Christmas vacation, and when 1 returned to town the snow was so deep that I had to park my car across from the present Thomas Store, and walk to the place where I lived. Mr. Ahlstrom had my car towed into town, and parked in front of his home. There he put a tarp over it, took out the battery and the wheels off, and blocked it up out of the snow. There it remained until the 1st part of April. The snow-was up even with the fence at George Shakespears, a tunnel had been dug between the school building and the old dance hall, so we could go there for classes; June Nelson brought the students from Cannonvillc to school in a j bobsleigh, the bus could j not make it. j Stan Mecham, David Marshall and Arden Pollock were all born that winter.
