Show Better Bryce Agency Explained TROPIC In a special meeting of the Tropic town board held March 7 at the Scout House, Steven Roberts, auditor, Utah Outdoor Recreation Agency, explained to board members and representatives of the Better Bryce Valley committee the purpose of the agency, the scope of its grants, and the terms of its grants. Members of the committee had requested the special meeting in their efforts to proceed with the development of the Tropic town park. In a colorful slide presentation, Roberts explained the agencies purpose is to stimulate, encourage, and assist local and state governmental agencies in creating new and expanded high quality public outdoor recreation facilities. Emphasizing that assistance is provided more readily for projects which are designed to serve the public-at-large rather than limited groups, and for basic rather than elaborate facilities, he also pointed out that those projects for which no other funds are available receive priority consideration. Noting that grants are made on a 50-50 match with local funds, Roberts then fielded a series of questions from those attending the meeting which dealt specifically with the project proposed. Additional assistance was offered by Chris Polanis, Five County Association of Governments. Both Roberts and Polanis volunteered the services of their respective organizations in further assisting the group in making proper application for the grant, urging them to continue their efforts In order to meet the Jui.e 1 deadline and complimenting the group on the progress made thus far. |
