Show Escalante Chit Chat Fay Alvey Spring came in on the song of birds, beautiful sunshine and a few lazy clouds drifting along the horizon. The sick are holding their own; Haws Porter brought his parents, Rol and Mina home and stayed for the party. Alfred and Ada Heaps brought Mary Ellen Coleman home, the doctors told her she needs surgery but she is putting it off. Her sister Nora Youngdale came with them and spent the weekend. Raylene Alvey came from Richfield and helped Deon get back on her feet but that one leg is still not doing what it should. Lillie Spencer made it as far as Richfield on her way home, they are trying to keep her until she js completely over her surgery. Hanes and Iola Woolsey went to Denver to get equipment parts for the oil rig. Lance and Dianne Coleman and Russel Griffin have moved to Delta where they have employment. A big majority of the youth of the community went to Beaver for a youth conference. Some who were past the first bloom of youih accompanied them as chaperones. The Donald Griffins had a visit from Lane, Marilee and family from Provo. Ann Haws and son Robert spent the weekend at the Delane Griffin home. Robert and Lousie Liston went to Argentina to meet son Dahl who is being released from his LDS mission in that country. Beth and Steve Blakey of Springville were hare for the weekend and brought Evadean Liston home and she surprised everyone by staying. The Blakeys had their son christened and the proud Father gave him the name of Shawn Harvey. Jim Alvey and family came for the occasion and Jim got more old wood to finish his basement. Former resident, Jim Spencer's ball team won the 3A basketball championship and was chosen to go to Washington, D C. His star player, Devies Durant and wife Janet accompanied him. Patrice Haws Cottam was chosen employee of the month at Cedar City she works for the Chamber of Commerce. The Hales and Masters got word that their father in Hurricane was not well so they went to him. Curly Hale had just returned from Salt Lake City where he took some training to be a fair judge. Last week the Masters went to Las Vegas, so Ruth Hale accompanied them as far as St. George thinking to surprise her kids there but they surprised her by being elsewhere. Bonnie Smith took Minnie Davis back to Panguitch for arm x-rays, her arm is not too bad but her thumb is giving her constant trouble. Garl and Patsy Cottam of Provo visited Ushur Spencer here. Shirley Marsh had a visit from her parents, Max and Evelyn Heap of Cedar City. Marie Hall accompanied me to Cedar City and stayed at the home of the Rulon Jolleys and I met my three brothers at the Val Little home, we discussed family business. Stan and Laurie Munson had a visit from her sister and husband, Darel and Christi Jardine and family from Elko, Nevada. Those we noticed here for the annual homecoming party were Howard and Lanea Munson, Arden and Ruby Woolsey, Ferl and Ernel Porter, Osmer and Evie Neilson, Mark and Lori Griffin, Ken and Norma Schow. Orabell and John Weigle, Vern and Kathy Mclnelly, Shirlee Carter, Doug and Barbara Haycock, Woodrow Haycock, Ben and Renee Porter. Bob and Michelle Spencer, if there were any others we did not see them. The party was quite a success in spite of all the worries. The committee turned almost four hundred dollars to the bishop who did not know whether to use it on the church or the budget. The program turned out quite well, the Escalante River Rats sang several numbers, Keith Carter sang with his own guitar accompaniment, Hazel Sanborn gave a reading, Gerald Johnson sang acapella, when he really did not intend to, Mayor Dale Marsh read a letter which fell into his hands. |
