Show Escalante Chit Chat FayAlvey 826-4231 The weather is clear and cold but quite delightful. Cleave Coleman did not have surgery as planned, he choked on a mint and went into a coma. He is in the Veterans hospital In critical condition. Millie Mclnelly slipped on the ice breaking her ankle, she went to Panguitch and had It cast. She and James went to Richfield the weekend to visit Vern and Kathy. Sox and Effie Spencer got word that daughter Effie Kae had major surgery but was coming along ok, she lives in Randolf. They have Brad home for a post holiday visit. They expected Hal and Winna but were disappointed; Hal graduated in refrigeration with high honors and was given the job as instructor there in Las Vegas and Winna still teaches so they are tied. The trailer house of Harvey Dean Gates caught fire from hot ashes. Diann and the kids were there alone but the fire truck was summoned and it was extinguished. Smoke damage was the problem. The youngest boy had some breathing problems so was kept in the hospital overnight. Bud and Joy Gates came from Salt Lake City to help get things back to normal. Mary and LaVern Griffin hitched onto their little trailer house and headed for Las Vegas to get away from the snow and cold. Alfred and Ruth Chiono got ready to go and Ruth got sick so their trip was postponed. Chuck Wayne is home for a visit. Art Lynn was here on sawmill business then Steven Steed. Dale and Thelma Marsh went to Salt Lake City to meet with an auditor for the mill books. Judy Kelly workman and her husband Bill from Wyoming visited friends here last week. John and Yukon Norman took daughter Jana Lee to Richfield and had her tonsils out. DeLyn Norman is home from the hospital but not too well. Post person, Marlene Haws went to Washington, D.C. for postal meetings She drove her car north to join a group and fly. Janeen Duncan accompanied her to Richfield where hubby Brad met her and they returned, to Green River. Janeen stayed here until her dad, Arnold Al vey got his ailments under control. Kay Gates of Vernal spent some time here in connection with his job. Beth and Rotis Coleman of Richfield spent the weekend at the Lovell Twitchell home. Verl Black of Monroe was here horse hunting. Lorell and Nancy Baker of Richfield were here again at the Wayne Buttons, that grandbaby is quite a drawing card. Arnold Button had business in Arizona. Lane Liston, Arden Taylor, Dale Wilson and Afton Leibenguth were home from their Jobs. A bridal shower for Mrs. Don Shurtz was held at the home of Arnold and Deon Alvey. Dorthy Cowles and daughter, Laretta and Virginia Shurtz came from Richfield for the occasion. Don brought his bride here from panguitch where he has employment. Denise Alvey spent the weekend home from Panguitch. The school kids we noticed home were Margo and Jim Smith, Patrice Haws, Gary Liston, Sloan Porter, Mark Griffin and Natalie Bailey. Bonnie Lou Smith met Leda Mae Foster for a trip to Cedar City. Ivan and Nelda Willis came home from California by way of Beaver. Dawn Griffin has closed the This and That shop but will go in if someone wants something, just give her a call. Stan and Cook Liston went to Panguitch Monday, Cook had a phone call from son Mark in Kanab he had stopped for truck repairs. Ruth and Curly Hale mixed business with pleasure and covered most of Arizona. Their business was locating a house that could be put up here. Their pleasure was visiting relatives in Scottsdale, Mesa, Coolege and Florence. One kissing cousin Ruth especially wanted to see but only got to talk to him on the phone. Vera Davis told me Lorin and Meletta Cotton, former residents who now live in Provo had their 59th wedding anniversary Sunday. Vera Is practically down with that blamed old misery in her back. In meeting Sunday the speakers were Quinn Griffin and Jerry Lawrence, the ward choir sang a number. The annual water meeting was held Saturday putting Melvin Alvey and McKay Bailey back in, Stan Liston resigned and Delane Griffin took his place.
