Show 1 'if ri Escalante Stake Center Work Nearing Completion ESCALANTE The reconstruction of the Escalante South Ward into the Escalante Stake Center is expected to be completed in time for a youth conference April 6, 7 and 8. The M&3.394 construction project will Include a new chapel, stake presidency and clerks and high councilmen's rooms; three new classrooms, new bishops and clerks offices and a library. The Relief Society is meeting in the remodeled chapel. The cultural hall is already in existence. Of the money paid for work, $328,014 will be paid by the LDS Church and Escalante will have to raise $125,377. Of this amount, all but $29,894 has been paid. This must be paid before the building is dedicated. The different wards have held various fund raising projects, including ward dinners, mutton fries, a recipe book sale bar-beques and a fleat market, Relief Society ladies sold homemade items, butter, cheese, used items, quilts, refinlshed furniture and baked goods. This flea market is open during the early spring, the late fall and all summer, so the tourists could patronize the mart. |
