Hobbs looks at scant snow covering on pink cliffs and pinnacles at the world-famous attraction, Lack of BRYCE CANYON Visitation to Bryce Canyon National Park during February was 5,968 persons, representing a 42 percent .Increase, over February 1976. Park Supt. Thomas 0. Hobbs added that North Campground will remain open until snow forces closure. Weather for February has been mild with an average high of 44 degrees Fahrenheit (7 deg Celsius) and the average low at 9 deg Fahrenheit (-13 deg Celsius), with only 5 inches (12.7 centimeters) of snow. Three park employees attended an 8 hour Law Enforcement Workshop at Capitol Reef National Park. A search was conducted for two hikers from Minnesota, which were later found on Bristlecone Point, along the east boundary of the park. The maintenance division has been keeping the 5 main viewpoints open throughout the winter and painting picnic tables and inside- building,, Administrative personnel have been busy mailing out seasonal employment packets. Five students from Bryce Valley High School are volunteers-in-the-park and gaining on-the-job work experience. The visitor center and interpretive facilities continue to be open 7 days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There were 2,079 persons that visited the interpretive facility during February. |
