Show Kerry Nelson Appointed Garfield School's Chief The Garfield County School District Board of Education has appointed acting superintendent Kerry Nelson as superintendent of schools. . Mr. Nelson has been acting superintendent since last March when he took over reigns of the district from Dr. VerMon Barney. Also elimination of one of the teaching positions at the Antimony School was acted upon leaving only, one teacher,. Ned Burr, principal, uelford Goff will leave after one years teaching. The reason for the .elimination, was, the decline of enrollment " leaving a' "pupU--teacher ratial next year of 16 to Dale Baldwin resigned from the school board because of conflict with his job.. Architect John Rowley was present showing his plans drawn for a new school lunch building at Escalante High School and an addition to the gymnasium to provide showers for the teachers and public restroom, at an estimated cost of $145,000. Other plans shown the board provided rooms at the Panguitch Middle School tor home economics, sewing and child development with option to eliminate the child development room. Also plans for the long range plan was a multipurpose room for Bryce Valley. The plans were left with the board members and will be discussed at the next meeting. A discussion about eliminating the long senior trips ...and confining the trips, to a single day within the state or within a specific area resulted because of activities taking place at the Escalante and Bryce Valley High Schools. The board will determine the length of the trips at the meeting held to review policies and procedures of the schools and any action taken will be Incorporated at that time. Discussion regarding the general feeling among principals and board members were that there were too many extra curricular activities taking place in the high schools. One person mentioned it was probably a good Idea to have conflicts so students do not feel that they need to be Involved In everything. The general feeling of the meeting was "let's get back to work". The board members attitude was to try to be a littlt stricter about school activities and be more serious about educational factors. |
