Show Escalante Chit Chat Fay Alvey 8M-2431 We have an occasional decent day and get our hopes up then there it ice on the water trough again. The northern part of the state is getting the moisture and we get the wind. Arnold Alvey is in the Panguitch Hospital feeling mighty rugged. His family all came to see him and when he felt better, Velma Durant brought Zella home and stayed with her. ' Hazel Haycock is home but shows that she has been 111. The Arden Taylors took daughter Janlee to Panguitch then on north to get her medical assistance. Leah Griffin came home without having surgery but has a date to go back-Floyd and Maxine Horrocks of Salt Lake City brought Rol and Mina Porter home. Rol checked out very well and Mina said the doctor told her what she already knew, that she is carrying too much weight. Dick and Dorene Schow are here visiting at the home of Emmett Porter. Dick is recovering from pneumonia so had to take some time off to get back on his feet. Nancy Droubay, son Dick and daughter Julie of Richfield were here for the weekend. The Otto Roundys had Gene and Renon Reed and girls, and Roundy grandkids, Cheryl, Colette, Darrell and Dean all from Monroe. Klyn and Marlene Haws had all of their family home. Robert, Goldie and son came from Wyoming. Arnold and Deon Alvey had Janeen and Brad Duncan here from Salt Lake City. The Escalante ward members can now relax, Bishop, Sharon Dale Marsh and wife Shirlee have a fine baby boy. They are back home and her mother, Evelyn Heap is here helping to care for them. Ruth Alvey had La Dell and family here from Kanab. Tom and Ann Reynolds and family of Monroe were here for the weekend. They brought Maud Reynolds to visit her sister, Nellie Bailey who also had granddaughter, Shanna. Roliane Lyman had Darrell and Dana Alvey and small daughter home for the weekend. Sariah Alvey had son Ray L. and family here from Roy. Accompanying them were Homer and Jeanlce Randal of Morgan. Beth Liston joined Lola Alvey and boys for a trip home. Jim Alvey came with Dewey Willis to Henrieville where Lola met him. Dot Coombs and family joined us for Sunday dinner, then we all went to Little's Ranch to wish mother happy birthday one day early. She was 89 May 5. Evadean and Beth visited the Bruce Daltons in Hatch. Beth was interviewed for an LDS mission while home. The Utah Industrial Arts Educational Association held a Lapidary Arts Work Shop at Escalante High School Firday night and all day Saturday under the direction of Joe Luke, state director of Industrial Education in Utah. The work shop included silver smithing and general lapidary techniques. Saturday morning Edson Alvey conducted a field trip into the nearby hills for rocks to cut and polish. Saturday evening the group met at Calf Creek Park for a cookout under the direction of Gerald Haycock of Sandy. Twenty Industrial Arts teachers and their wives took part in the conference, visiting the Alvey Museum and touring the canyons in the Boulder area. Visitors at the Melvin Alvey home were Mr. and Mrs. Omer II. Reid of Springville and Mildred Deuel of Panguitch. The Mode Alveys had Blair and Geneal Frazier and sons here for the weekend. Other family members, Judy and Bob Lehigh have come to spend the summer here in the Johnson's trailer house. The Escalante Utah Stake Presidency hosted the biannual regional meeting at Panguitch Friday, May 2 under the direction of regional representative, La Mar Stewart of Gunnison. Instruction was provided for stake leaders of the relief society, primary and priesthood quorum presidencies, using Panguitch North and South Ward chapels and the seminary building. Stake President Lorell Munson presided and conducted the first Escalante Stake fireside In the Escalante Ward Chapel Sunday night for aaronic priesthood and young women between the ages of 12 and 18. The theme, "Missionary Work" was promoted by a short talk by Pres. Munson, followed by the testimonies of Greg Vidrlne, Brenda Shurtz and Pres. Vernon Spencer. The film, "Go Ye Unto All the World" was shown by the Stake Executive Secretary, Clele Fletcher, with prayers being offered by Fred Crooks and Nolan Johnson. Refreshments were served in the cultural hall to those from Tropic, Cannonville, Henrieville, Boulder and Escalante wards. Tropic Ward Chapel wiU be the location of next months fireside. Kay Lunn Staples and Charlotte Porter brought their grandmother, Gurena Robinson home. She says she feels better. Her son, Blake Dee was here from Salt Lake City. The Tom Sanborns have returned from a quick trip to their Redlands, Calif home where they gave birthday party dinner party for Tom's 84-year-old mother. Fifteen members of her four generation family were in attendance. While there, the Sanborns son-in-law, Frank Venuti won a $2,500. pre-med scholarship next year at the University of Redlands. The Ventuti's are living in the Sanborn home while his in school. Jim and Erma Gates had Kay and Kathy home for the weekend. Hilda Gardener accompanied me to Salt Lake City for the Governor's Conference on Aging. She did the driving with me under the wheel as she knew her way around and I didn't. It was an enjoyable entertainment with over 3,000 senior citizens enjoying the talents of the entertainers. Amanda Marriage and Ruby Roe of Panguitch visited here. The race meet was held as scheduled and the horse owners, the horse lovers and the bet winners were happy in spite of the wind and sand. The colored help overseen by Alice Ann Lyman did not see too much except hungry people. The dance at night was very successful with music by Val Veater and his helpers. They played two nights, Friday in the high school gym and Saturday in the Star Hall. 'mere's always talk of helping some group that's in distress, which of them is most in need !s anybody's guess.
