Show Tabernacle Choir, Symphony Sets Bicentennial Appearance at Zion As part of the nation's Bicentennial celebration, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Utah Symphony will present a combined concert near Zion National Park during the summer of 1976. It was announced by the Utah Bicentennial Commission that the concert will be held near Springdale, Friday, June 11. This landmark event will be the first combined concert for the Utah Symphony and the Tabernacle Choir, held in the southern Utah area. Some $100,000 was appropriated by the Utah Legislature for the building of an amphitheater to house the concert. The amphitheater will be built on land currently owned by Dixie College and that following the concert, Dixie College will retain ownership of the amphitheater. The concept of the joint concert came about in a meeting between Senator Dixie Leavitt, Sidney J. Atkin, and Conway Ash ton, of the Utah Symphony management. At the meeting, Mr. Ashton expressed interest in such a concert. |
