Show Wallace Roundy Notes 87th Day In Escalante ESCALANTE - Escalante'i oldest resident, Wallace N. Roundy celebrated his 87th birthday anniversary May 1st with an open house in his honor at the home of his daughter, Betty Alvey. Friends and relatives of Escalante attended. Mr. Roundy was born May 1, 1888 in Escalante, the eighth child of Napoleon B. and Elizabeth Margaret Williams Roundy. He grew up In a one-room log house and attended school in the first log school house. He later attended the BYU in Provo for two years. He helped with finances by working in a store for a dollar a day. He married Ella Griffin March 10, 1909, in Escalante and later solmnized in the Manti LDS Temple. Reserved a two-year LDS mission in the northwestern states from 1913-15. He has been an active cattleman aand rancher and worked as assistant ranger in the Circle-Boulder district. In 1938, he represented the cattle industry in Washington, D.C. and helped to formulate the code for Taylor Grazing. He is active in the LDS church where he has served as high councilman and has held various church positions. His wife died May 20, 1964 and Sre' living seven of his eight children. He also has 24 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren. |
