Escalante Branch Bank To Begin Business Wednesday ESCALANTE - The Escalante Branch, Bank of Iron County, will open for business Wednesday in a newly completed building in Escalante. Osmer K. Nielson, executive vice president of Bank of Iron County, Parowan, said David Adams, Parowan native, will manage the facility with two employees Rhonda Button and Janice Peterson, assisting. The bank will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The new $125,000 building also features a drive-up window, which will have the same operating hours as the bank. The bank will be the first full-time operation in the community. Mr. Nielson told the Garfield County News that he has been making periodic trips to Escalante for many years. "I have taken change for merchants, working out of my car," he said. "Because of the increasing need for a full-time bank, we felt a branch of our bank would be Justified," he said. Nielson cited the Kaiparowits development, Utah Power and Light Company's contemplated power plant in the area, along with the oil field production as major industries and businesses which helped his firm make a decision in moving for the operation. The building features vault and night depository along with other regular features and the drive-up window. Nielson said all deposits are insured up to $40,000 by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Mr. Nielson has been with the bank in Parowan for 16 years and was with First State Bank in Salina prior to that time. "We will be having a grand opening in the near future, and will be announcing that event soon," Nielson concluded. |
