A number of rare, early mnnuscriptB. mostly on vellum, aro about to be sold nt miction In this city. The most Interesting of tho lot is n Latin Hlblo of tho fifteenth century, cen-tury, n manuscript on 400 leaves of fine whlto vellum, lu double columns of 52 lines to tho column. It contains in any Initial letters In gold nnd colors, and several hundred Btnnller letters In colors. Tho dnto of tho completion of tho work A. D. 1447 Is written by tho scribe at tho end of tho two-folio volumes vol-umes Into which tho manuscript Is divided. di-vided. Tho binding Is full lovant morocco, mo-rocco, JniiBcn stylo. H Is believed that tho work was written for some ono of note, presumably pre-sumably n cardinal, lis tho first leaf of tho second volume, In tho Illumination nt tlio bottom of tho pngo, Iuib a portrait por-trait of' n cardlnnl, supported by tho prophets, Isaiah and Daniel. Tho largo Inltlnl letter at tho top' of tho Fame pngo contains In tho center n mlnlnture of a cardinal. Tho first leaf in volume I, has n cont of arms In the bottom illuminated border.- c - ' It Is asserted that this work Is the finest specimen of a manuscript lllble ever offered at public mile In tho Unl tod States. Another beautifully written mnnu-script mnnu-script Is tho "Chansons Frnucalsos," the work of Nicholas Jnrry, tho famous fa-mous scrlbo of tho court of Louis XIV. Jarry executed for tho king, It Vnl-Hero Vnl-Hero nnd other members of tho court, a number of celebrated manuscripts. Tho present manuscript consists of 2C leaves of flno whlto vellum, and there aro ten pen-and-ink portraits and 1G drinking and dancing songs with tho music. Tho portraits, It is bcllovcd, aro faithful likenesses, dono from ilfo. Tho first portrait Is that of Quoon Henrietta Marin. Tho portraits havo been drawn without lifting tho pen from tho vellum except a fow strokes for tho features. Tho manuscript belonged be-longed to tho famous collection of James Illndley, and contains his bookplate. book-plate. It was sold In tho Asburnhnm collection in 1900.
