Show IPP Majority of IPP permanent workforce from Utah Intermountain Power Service Corporation (IPSC) the organization that is operating Power and maintaining the Intermountain Project currently has a workforce of 576 people That number should gradually expand to approximately 623 sometime in 1988 where it will remain for optimum operation of the plant Hiring for IPSC began late in 1982 with five employees and has rapidly grown to its current level In a time of high unemployment IPSC has been a boon to Millard and Juab counties and to Utah in general Of the current 576 employees 501 or 87 percent are from Utah Of that 501 68 percent or 339 are from Millard and Juab counties It was the originators of the Projects’s intent with the building of the Power Plant to provide jobs for Utah residents The numbers indicate that these goals have been achieved Employees that were hired from outside Utah were selected for their technical expertise and power plant experience Although IPSC as an organization is relatively new less than 5 years they will have their first retiree in July of this year During the initial staffing of employees nearly 10000 resumes were received with most being classified for potential employEach respondent receivment opportunities ed a reply from the Personnel Department explaining what job they had been classified in and soliciting a follow-uresponse of continued interest and agreement All hiring has been done from the resume files Some of the people were interviewed as late as two years after sending their resume Hiring is still conducted the same way today at IPSC All candidates are given the same written terview for the position for which they are being considered insuring consistent and uniform practices in hiring The IPSC workforce is divided into 5 major categories or departments: Operations Maintenance Converter Station Technical Services and Support Services Within these departments there are 92 different jobs ranging from Elevator AC Mechanic to Assistant Lab Analyst IPSC like many large companies in Utah is pleased with the work ethic of its employees This was particularly apparent at IPSC during of the Generating Units Many employees changed vacation schedules were called out on short notice and worked many hours of overtime in order to help bring the units on schedule Employees at IPSC have come from many different occupations some from the steel industry retailing transportation farming private business ventures and even one attorney Many of the employees from Millard and Juab counties who were previously engaged in farming have been a particular value to IPSC because of their natural ability with machinery and equipment Bringing nearly 600 new people together to run a power plant has caused some growing pains for IPSC but now with both units consistently generating over 800 megawatts of power they are indeed “up and Special Section Millard County Chronicle Progress Page IS "LOOK WHAT WE JUST BOUGHT MOM" OR HOW TO TELL YOUR WIFE YOU BOUGHT A HOME ON THE SUNSET VIEW GOLF COURSE IN DELTA 'It was a limited offer” Tell her that your new home is the first one built adjacent to the Sunset View golf course in Delta Yours will be one of an exclusive group You had to act fast to get the additional discount for the first few sold "It's right on the course!"
