He took the Huskies Jazz Band on the road during the last few weeks of school. The road led to several elementary and middle schools in the Jordan School District, where the younger students indicated a strong preference for the jazz numbers played by the band. The short programs usually less than 30 minutes to keep the interest of the elementary children featured several types of music. The purpose of the variety of music is two-folFirst it gives the band d. members a chance to rest by playing slower music and the use of soloists because they have, in most cases, already had one or two periods of band. Secondly, the variety gives us a chance to stress how the various instruments fit into the total band picture, Mr. Ronk said. Early in the program Mr. Ronk introduces each of the instruments and then stresses how they fit into the band as the solo parts are played. Also the numbers are selected to demonstrate the strengths of the individual instruments, hence a variety of music which introduces the kindergarten through 5th graders to music. Judging from the applause we received, jazz may have a brilliant future. The small children really dig the swing and beat, Mr. Ronk said. Recently Jennifer Flinders, a stu- dent at Midvalley Elementary School, found herself as a budding maestro and took a bow before a multipurpose room crowded with classmates who gave her as big a hand as the band. Members of the band who participate wearing green shirts and black trousers with black suspenders included: Cameron Harker, Andy Poul-seBilly Sampson and Paul Sorensen on trumpets; Jerry Norr, trombone; Wendy Baker, Melanie Clouse, Mike Johnson, Brad Nielson and Doug Woolley, saxaphones; Patricia Bonney, pianist; Jon Cook, drums, and Todd Sharp and Jade Clayton, guitars. n, 76otadai Shoe 272-142- 1 (In Holladay Village Shopping Center) (2300 East) 4699 Holladay Boulevard Hinckley Institute Honors Graduate Jesse Gallegos, 25, Midvale, is the first Robert H.
