Show RED B03K SHOWS EASTERN UTAH'S RESOURCES (Continued from last week) From the agr cultural standpoint, these two counties are very good for a number of reasons. First, the markets are excellent because of the close proximity proxi-mity of the coal camps; second, there is an abundance ol water to irrigate every foot of tillable land in the valley, including all cultivated and uncultivated land, if it is properly stored for use during 'low water season; third, most soils here are rich, deep soils, and are productive, especially so for the root ! crops, alfalfa, potatoes, corn, fruit raising, and the cereals, barley and oats; fourth, there it a gooa growing climate here; fifth, there is a vastacre-age vastacre-age of tillable soil, both that might be irrigated and also dry farmed. Iu these two counties, like unto other counties, there can be found some poor land; some tracts naturally' go, while others have been made tnus by bad methods of farming. The sugar beet industry could be made a very profitable industry in most sections of these two counties because of the nature of the soil. One might go so far as to predict that this will be a great industry here at some future date. Alfalfa seed and hay raising are and have been two good industries her.-. Potatoes do well in this soil, if good seed and methods are used. Carbon and Emery counties raise an excellent grade of honey, because of the good climatical conditions and because be-cause of the great variety of plants upon up-on which the bees feed. The honev from this district took first prize at the Utah state fair this year (1914). Therd are many, many opportunities here for old and new settlers, and for homemaking. It might be a good section sec-tion for homeseekers to investigate. |
