Its a great time of year and Id be willing to bet it is the favorite season for a majority of Utahs people. The main reason so many people look forward to the fall is its hunting season again. Our first big hunt is the archery hunt which is now over, but Now is the time to shoot some clay pigeons and exercise your dog so that when the pheasant season is here you and your dog are in some kind of the really popular ones are coming up grouse, opens this Saturday, then elk, deer, waterfowl and pheasant hunts follow closely. And if you were lucky enough to draw a permit, there is the antelope, moose, muzzle loader elk, buffalo, etc., hunts. We have a great variety of wildlife resources in our state and for that we should be very grateful. shape. Are you a first time hunter and not of how to care for that sage grouse you just shot or you arent sure of how to clean a deer and care for it properly? Now is the time to find out how to do these things, and how to fulfill your responsibility. sure As most Utahns know, we have a Hunter Safety Course requirement in our state and one of the subjects taught is hunter ethics. This is a tough subject to talk on especially when you only have an hour to cover it and the kids may have learned something exactly opposite to what you are saying. Everyone seems to have their own ideas of where ethics fit into the subject of hunting and fishing. We try to instill in the students that they have a responsibility not only to themselves and their hunting partners, but also to the animals they are after. Knowing the game laws and abiding by them is another important part of being an ethical hunter. Before you go hunting, pick up a proclamation and read it if there is something in it you dont understand, call your local conservation officer or contact any member of the Division of Wildlife Resources we will be happy to help you out. Dad, if you have a new hunter with you this year, you have a great opportunity to share some of your Knowledge and experience. Teach your kids to ask for permission to hunt, to keep that gun unloaded and the bolt open in a vehicle, to skin a deer, to keep his knife sharp and the dozens of other things that make up a successful and knowledgable hunter. The archery hunt is a continuing example of this during the archery hunt, we of course talk to quite a few hunters and they frequently tell of how they miss deer at 10 to 20 feet or worse area and the yet hit them in a non-vit- defeat Cougars BATTLE for the hall occurs between a Duchesne Eagle and Uintah Utes Audra Pope, 8 and Murl Ward, 5.
