During past years the pep talks were a bit on a downbeat as the Utes had just suffered another home loss, but the win over Carbon this season turned the annual after game pep talk into an upbeat event The lockerroom was a happy scene instead of a sad location, which had coaches sitting silently in dark corners wondering what happened. Uintah failed on a number of scoring opportunities in the first half, but a 45 yard punt by return-touchdow- n m tackled by a Carbon High School football player. Also in the picture are Richard Rust, 40 and Kyle White, 80. Dee Steinfeldt with 20 seconds left gave the Utes a 0 lead at halftime. Quarterback Kenny Mohar gave the ball to me and I swung to the left. The linebacker was standing there and Steinfeldt picked him up. Steinfeldts block enabled me to go the last yards for the touchdown. The safety man came out and I pulled a fake and went around him for the score. The last man from Carbon dove for me in the end zone, landed on top of me and I sprained my ankle, stated Teo. Nawahine was quite costly as it set up a touchdown score by Uintahs Jon Nash in the third quarter. I sacked the quarterback and the ball popped loose at the 11 yard line. I picked up the ball, but unfortunately Clark Barker of Uintah stepped on my foot and I couldnt make it. My shoe came off and everything. The ball ended up at the Carbon three yard line, stated Nawahine When asked to comment on his one yard touchdown run Nash remarked, It was a dive off the right side over Clark Barker and Scott Simper, who gave me good blocks and the touchdown was there. We had great offensive blocking by 11. bc all night The final Ute touchdown of the game was scored on a three yard touchdown run by Richard Rust and he said, It was a blast right and Steve Hatch and Barker just made the hole wide for me. It was there and I took it for the touchdown. Barker was one of the many Utes who turned in fine blocks to help Steinfeldt score a touchdown on a 45 yard punt return in the second quarter. Steinfeldt was going right, cut left and so I went right. A guy was ready to tackle Steinfeldt so I knocked him down with a good block. I looked back and Steinfeldt was gone, said Barker. We ran a dive left to the weak side on the touchdown by Teo. We got around the linebacker and we knew we could score. Nawahine went out there and sacked the quarterback, recovered a fumble, but couldnt get it in for the score. Nash scored on a one yard run and Rust added another touchdown. We decided to play ball in the second half and then went out there and knew we could win. Most of the daily newspapers reported Uintah defeated Carbon, 25-but the actual score was 25-- as the Dinos scored with four seconds left in the game. Carbon gained some help from the Utes.
