' The system has been inspected by the Utah State Fire Marshall who said it meets all requirements, Harris noted. The inspection was done a week before school started and the fire marshall said, go ahead and hold school, Harris added. The new ceilings and lighting in the building and a clue to the fire alarm system given by the little units visible in the hallways, new doors and the counter area in the office are apparent to those who enter the building. However, things like the updated heating and cooling system which cuts energy costs by recirculating heated air from the auditorium so it doesnt have to be heated again, and the extension of the smokestack which guarantees smoke free recirculated air, and newly insulated pipes beneath the building, are not quite so obvious. Harris said more improvements will be made on the building next summer that will be aesthetically pleasing. New carpet will be installed, painting will be done throughout the building, the present faculty lounge will become a common area for the students open to the hallway and a new faculty lounge will be built. r"i , p L maeaLi?r THE NEW COUNTER - The new fire alarm system is the latest and most efficient available. Harris said an alarm will sound no matter where a fire is detected. A monitor in the central office will pinpoint the location of the fire. When activated, the system will immediately shut all heating and fan systems down to prevent smoke transferring through the building. It not only shuts down these units, but the fire dampers, thus making an air tight seal between building units. ; f UMT;! i h; - not readily Although it is noticeable as you enter the halls at Uintah High School, some very important changes were made in the building during the summer months. There was $550,000 worth of remodeling completed in the building which included a fire safety system, new doors throughout, ceilings, lighting in the corridors, a more efficient unit attached to the heating and cooling system, some architectural woodwork in the school office and a smokestack was extended upward. According to Dirk Harris who the and construction oversees remodeling of schools in the Uintah District, the man hours to complete the project by the end of the summer required some Saturdays and night work. The work started June 1 and was finished, (except for the installation of a few doors that had to be exchanged because the wrong ones were sent), August 17. A few last minute items were completed the Saturday before school started. Bringing the fire alarm system and fire safety in the building up to the rigid state codes was the major item for this summers remodeling. Replacement of the doors throughout the building was necessary as the majority of the doors were the originals installed about 40 years ago and none of them met the fire code. - p '! ' MONET 7 Planning For The Impromptu Nothings more fun than going on one where an impromptu picnic of a beauyou can take advantage tiful day, quickly gather your food items, and go. According to home economists a from Whirlpool Corporation, picnic can be arranged quite easily with the aid of your freezer and plenty of ice to fill the ice chest. If your freezer is a model that doesnt have an ice maker, the home economists suggest that you start saving your ice cubes. Empty several trays full into plastic bags and keep them stored in the freezer until picnic day comes along. As far as what you take.. .the home economists suggest that you make up some sandwiches ahead of time from leftovers and then put them in the freezer. They caution you to avoid fillings with mayonnaise, hard cooked eggs and other foods that should not be frozen. Lettuce, tomatoes or mayonnaise can be added after the sandwiches are taken from the freezer. Now all youll need to do is add a few potato chips, pickles or celery and carrot slices plus a cool drink and youre all set to go. i Mens Pendleton Shirts 30 MJKVimS Off Selected Styles Sizes 14'2 to 1XA Long CHEROKEE Mens Womens Childrens Shoes & Boots Handbags 20 ,a adidas 25 West Main 4 75 KEDS 30 OFF Large Selection Vernal - 789-303- 3 |
